Week in Review August 2, 2021

Last week, I shared my top ten sewing supplies in this post instead of doing a week in review.  However, I decided that I would get back to it, lots has happened since I last wrote a week in review.

Lots and Lots of Fabric and Trims

It's been a long time since I've gone fabric shopping, and my stash is showing. But that's not going to be the case in the next few weeks as my orders start coming in. My recent shopping spree consist of twenty-eight half metres of printed cotton, eleven half metres of solid colour cotton, a variety of laces, embroidered tulle, eyelet trim, organza ribbon and packing supplies. It didn't stop there, I also purchased a wool pressing mat, a craft cart, alligator clips (fabric storage), and heat release fabric marking pens.

A New Doll

I've enjoyed sewing for the Siblies so much that I went and purchased Carla, a Paola Reina doll. I would have loved to have been able to purchase a Little Darling, but they come with a price tag that I couldn't possibly justify to my husband. Regardless, I think Carla has a sweet little face, and I really can't wait for her to arrive from Latvia. Should be here in a couple of weeks :)

Patterns

I may have purchased several patterns in the last half of July. In my defence, Carla will need some new clothes once she arrives 😉. Two of the patterns that I purchased will be used for this month's sew alongs.

Sew Along

I started making the video for the sew along on August 7th. I did, however learn a valuable lesson while making the video the other evening. This is definitely something that is best worked on when my husband is on day shift and I'm up at 4 am, but more importantly, my son who doesn't understand the term be quiet, sleeps until around 9. I was a quarter of the way through my video when my son decides that he needs to visit me in my sewing room and start telling me all about his mine craft build that I'd already heard twice earlier in the day along with a tour. After reminding him that I was filming a video, he advises me that I can just edit out the parts that have him talking....I look at him, shake my head and say "then there will be nothing left". What a kid! Fingers crossed that I can get this done before Friday!

Some Rearranging

It's been around four or five months since I completed my sewing room, and in that time I've realised that certain arrangements just weren't working for me.  The first thing I changed was were my sewing machines were positioned. Originally I had them on the big table. I thought having a huge surface would be great to sew on. It probably would have worked if I was making something other than doll clothes, but you really don't need a large work surface to make doll clothing. Stuff was piling up, rolling towards the wall, had to shift the machines if I wanted to cut or take photos. So, I moved my machines back to my little white desk that I was using for packing up orders. My packing station wasn't seeing a whole lot of action so it was the perfect solution. Now I have the huge table clear for photos, cutting, ironing and packing up orders.

The next change I made was to the pegboard behind my sewing machines. Since this was originally my packing area, the pegboard consisted of all my packing supplies. Another problem with having the machines at the big table was that all my presser feet, machine needles, tools and other sewing supplies were in the drawers. Despite my trying to organise them, I could never find what I needed. So down went the packing supplies and up went all my presser feet, needles and tools back onto the pegboard.

All my sewing supplies, like scissors, pins, marking pens, etc that I cart back and forth from the sewing room to the living room will be going on my new pretty pink cart. It's only been a week since I've moved the machines, but it already seems a lot better.

A Sad Day

On Saturday, July 31, my sweet kitty Baby passed away. We'd found him at the city dump eleven years ago this coming Thanksgiving weekend. Dear husband and I had spent an hour chasing this cat around the dump. Eventually we trapped him in a dog crate that was in the metal pile at the dump. Despite where he'd come from, he quickly became a member of the family, always purring and wanting to cuddle. He will be greatly missed.

More Ebay BS

So when I thought it was finished with Joss and ebay, I was sadly mistaken. On the 14th of July, I received an email from ebay stating that I was to refund the buyer because "item not as described". Apparently it doesn't matter what your pictures show, buyers can expect something else, file a claim and get their money back along with your item. On the 19th of July, I got another email from customer service, with conflicting information again, stating that they were giving her a refund and that since I didn't make arrangement and send her money to send the doll back (even thought, her last message to me was to never contact her again) she could keep the doll as per their policy, then at the bottom of the message the agent states they've told her to return the doll.
Since the original letter from customer service on the 14th, I've told them several times that she had the doll relisted on her ebay store, described as new, which she said that I had falsely labelled her thus she was owed money, even though the doll was never photographed in the box so it was absurd for her to expect the doll to be sealed in it original packaging. And nothing. For another week all I get is emails telling me to send her money to have the doll returned to me. Finally in caps I write "IT'S KIND OF HARD TO HAVE HER RETURN A DOLL THAT SHE SOLD!". Two days later I get another message, this time it's from the appeals department stating they are reviewing the case and will be back to me in 48 hours. As of right now, it's been closer to 96 hours, however when the case first was escalated their 48 hours was almost seven weeks later. At this point, I'm fairly certain that ebay doesn't give a crap about it's sellers, and like I told them it's not their money they're giving away so what do they care, I just know that I will never shop on ebay again, they have absolutely no respect for their sellers, charge way too much, and I'm fairly certain they don't listen to one thing the seller has to say or even look at the listing photos for that matter.

The Week Ahead

I will be focusing on making YouTube videos this week as much as possible. I still have to finish this week's sew along before Saturday. I would like to get started on next week's video, but I'm not holding out much faith on that, since my kiddo is always chatting away lol.
I do need to get all my American Girl dolls listed, I believe I'll be listing them on Facebook's market place as I will never use ebay again.
