Sewing has always brought me joy, it's been my favourite past time since I can remember. First with a needle and thread making Barbie clothes then jumping ahead making doll clothes for the popular 18" dolls. And now my passion lies with clothing for dolls 12"-16". With all the sewing experience I have, sewing for dolls is completely different than sewing garments for people. The seams are smaller, the curves are way more tighter and the order of doing things different. Doll garments require a whole new set of skills. But I think with a little patience anyone could learn how to sew for dolls and will starting next month I will short video tutorials on YouTube and will host a weekly sew along,
In the meanwhile, I thought I'd make this Sewing Guide for those who want to learn how to sew for dolls. Even though I'm covering the basics, this is by no mean exclusively for beginners. Each guide will be a separate post and be linked below as they are posted.

Sewing for Dolls Intro:
Maybe you just got a new doll, or you've had one for awhile now or your child has asked you to make their doll some clothes and you have no experience but want to learn. The first lesson in sewing usually consist of being told what supplies you required to gather. I'm not going to give you that lesson first. Maybe it's because I'm a lefty and use to doing things backwards lol.
I purchase all my doll patterns online, so for me, it seems like the most logical place to start our sewing lessons. You will want to pick out an easy pattern for your first sewing project. Most pattern designer's will include this information in their description. Some Examples are listed below
Siblies:
Babydoll Dress by 123 Mulberry Street
Ruby Red Fashion Friends:
Dress for Ruby Red By (this is the pattern I will use in my first sew along on August 4, 2021)
A Girl for All Time:
Summer Twirl Dress by 123 Mulberry Street
You could purchase one of these or check out Etsy or Pixie Faire for more choices.
Don't forget to come back and check out Sewing Guide- Part 2 - Reading a Pattern (will be posted July 24th, 2021)
