I think this is the longest it's ever taken me to redecorate a room, thank you Covid for the major delays! Usually I can get a room primed and painted in just a few days, but since I procrastinated in getting my son's stuff out and into his new room, by the time I was ready to start painting we were under lock down and paint wasn't considered essential so I was out of luck. Unfortunately I was eager to start getting my new room ready so I used up all the white paint we had and painted the closet, started on the ceiling and trim. Weeks went by before I could get more paint! Once our local hardware store opened back up, I had my husband pick me up a can of paint. At this point I had already decided that I was going to paint the room white, logically I should have had him pick up two cans, but I didn't. My one gallon can of white paint didn't go very far.
Quarantine was extended and extended, finally I ordered some paint for pick up at our local department store, unfortunately it took more than a week to arrive and by the time it arrived, quarantine was finally over!
My new sewing room is approximately nine and a half by ten feet. In the picture above you can see the closet area where I store my fabric and patterns. After redesigning it several times, this is what I decided worked best. This is another reason it took so long to do this room, there was a lot of furniture rearranging and shelf building going on to get the most use out of the space.
Below is a picture of my Kallex units where most of my supplies are housed. The centre shelf unit holds baskets of trims and laces. I positioned the first shelf up high so that I could store my sewing machine bag out of the way, although I'm not totally sure why I have it, I don't travel anywhere with my sewing machine lol.
Since the whole idea behind turning this room into a sewing room was so that I could have all my supplies in one room as opposed to scattered from one end of the house to the other, I really wanted to include all my shipping supplies. This area serves a duo purpose, it's where I take my photos and package up orders. It's great to finally have everything in one place where I can see everything at a glance. This is how it looks for now, in the future I'd like to get a six cube kallex unit for under the desk.
How do you organise your sewing space - I'd love to know!
